Sarees are precious — whether silk, chiffon, Banarasi, or cotton. Storing them correctly protects the fabric, prevents colour fading, and keeps them fresh for years. Yet most people store sarees in plastic bags or cardboard boxes, which trap moisture and cause damage over time.
Why Cotton Is the Best Material for Saree Storage
- Breathable — allows air circulation, preventing moisture, mildew, and odour
- Soft — won't snag delicate fabrics like silk, chiffon, or georgette
- Non-toxic — no chemical coating to damage fabric or cause colour bleeding
- Washable — the cover itself can be washed regularly
Avoid plastic saree bags. They trap moisture, cause yellowing on silk, and damage embroidery and zari work over time.
What to Look for in a Cotton Saree Cover
1. Fabric Weight (GSM)
We recommend 150–180 GSM cotton for saree covers — breathable, soft, and holds shape without being too stiff or flimsy.
2. Size
A standard saree (5.5 metres folded) fits comfortably in a 14×16 inch cover. For heavier sarees like Banarasi or Kanjivaram, a 16×18 inch cover gives more room.
3. Closure Type
Zipper closure is best for saree storage — fully sealed against dust and insects. Drawstring covers don't protect as well.
4. Transparent Window
A transparent window lets you identify sarees without opening the cover — especially useful when storing many sarees together.
5. Pack Size
